Description

This quilt is 72 by 82 inches. It is a lightweight quilt in that it has no batting, but is backed with a red and white checked fabric. The great collection of fabrics is from the 1860’s. There are a few very small brown spots and three small holes on the back. The quilt is hand stitched. On the back of the quilt is the label that can be seen in the last photo. It reads: “Made in Hudson, NH/Sophia Greely about 1800/Jackson Grey started Nashua Canal & Nashua Mills/Brother of Dr. Greely/Related to Horace Greely Jackson/Given to Mary Young by Lela Cross”. Note the block in the top left hand side of the quilt – was that placement intentional?
