Description

This is a set of 31 hand stitched quilt blocks. 16 of the blocks still have newspaper attached, while on the other 15 blocks there are newspaper pieces/remnants remaining. The blocks are hand stitched with heavy off white and black thread. One block has the newspaper name and date at the top – The Constitution – Atlanta, GA dated October 10, 1935. There is an article on another piece of newspaper that writes about 1935 being the centennial birthday celebration year of Mark Twain. Other blocks have sports articles, advertisements, social columns, etc. Some of the blocks have a lightweight off white cotton strip attached on one or two edges. There are a few black spots on some of the pieces. One of the light tan prints has some staining.

The first two photos show the front and back of two of the blocks. It appears that scrap pieces or repurposed fabrics were used to make these blocks.
