Silk Log Cabin Quilt

Description

This very lightweight quilt is about 74 by 83 inches. The blocks are made entirely from silk. Each block is individually hand sewn on a brown square and then the blocks are stitched together. The brown backing is a loose weave fabric that has a slight sheen. The border is a thin strip of brown silk. As with silk of this time frame, many of the silk strips are missing or damaged. Unfortunately this quilt was folded in fourths which is where most of the damage is present. The backing has some staining and has been repaired in places. This piece is still stunning but the damage is pretty extensive.
